Councillor Duffy said: “This a great initiative to support local sports clubs with help towards coaching costs and equipment.
“As well as attending a Community based mini celebration event and an end of programme Regional Recognition Event.
“As someone who is involved in a local sporting club I know how these small programmes can go a very long way to help out.
“This scheme can give £ 400 towards coaching costs which must be additional to core club activities. And a club equipment pack to the value £1,000.
“It’s important from a health point of view that we all continue to support and promote sports development activities and encourage as many people as possible into lifelong participation in sport ,focusing on introducing and getting people of all ages back into sport,” she added.
The Grassroots Club Development Expression of Interest Form is used to be part of North West Sporting Pathways programme, funded by the North West Regional Development Group, in conjunction with and supported by The Executive Office and The Irish Government.
The programme, delivered in Partnership by Derry City & Strabane District Council and Donegal Sports Partnerships, is open to constituted ‘not for profit’ sports clubs that are open, accountable and representative of the geographical area in which they service.
The project will aim to strengthen the athletic pathway from grassroots participation to talent across Derry, Strabane and Donegal.
It will achieve this by development of the local coaching workforce, increasing participation rates in grassroots sport and the creation of NW regional talent squads to support the development of local emerging talented athletes.
