A trailer for series two of Derry Girls was released last week

DERRY Girls series two is one of the most hotly-anticipated shows of the year, particularly in the north west, where we can’t get enough of the quick wit and antics of Erin and friends.

Channel 4 has today revealed that series two kicks off on Tuesday, March 5 at 9.15 pm. Plenty of time to set the recorders and rewatch the first season!

Derry Girls stars were out in the show’s home city on Monday night for the world premiere.

The preview has already gained rave reviews, with words such as ‘amazeballs’, ‘unreal’ and ‘class’ coming from special guests.

Speaking at the premiere, actress Saoirse-Monica Jackson, who plays Erin, said: “It’s definitely bigger and braver, it’s bolder.

“We sort of adventure out a wee bit more, but they’re still the same – they’re still clumsily finding their way through teenage years and they’re selfish and … um … mental.”

Series writer Lisa McGee said that the new series will be set against the backdrop of the peace process in Northern Ireland, adding: “The gang are still very much getting in and out of trouble and trying to grow up – not very successfully, I would say.”

Other sneak peeks have revealed that Father Ted actor Ardal O’Hanlon is joining the cast as a guest star.

Mayor John Boyle met the cast of Derry Girls at Monday night’s premiere in the Omniplex Cinema.

He tweeted afterwards: “Great to have the cast and crew of #DerryGirls in the Guildhall after the premier screening of Season 2.

“The viewers of @Channel4 are in for a real treat next month!”
