Cusack commends community clean up in Derry

SDLP Councillor Shauna Cusack has commended members of the public who are getting involved with the ‘Adopt a Spot’ initiative in the Live Here Love Here project and encourages more to volunteer.

Cusack said: “This is an excellent programme which encourages the public to volunteer and commit to keeping areas of their community clean and beautiful.

“The project is supported by a number of bodies including the Housing Executive, DAERA and Council, who supply materials such as high vis vests and litter pickers.

“Having just carried out our second clean up of the park area between Rosemount and The Glen, I can testify the enthusiasm of volunteers and personal satisfaction at the end results is great.

“I was particularly pleased that we cleared number of unsightly drinking dens with hundreds of cans and bottles collected for recycling.

“This also means the Council and ratepayer needn’t now have to have to fork out for costly contractors.

“I really would encourage people passionate about the cleanliness of their areas to think seriously about getting involved, as the small positive efforts of some can combat the destructive thoughtless acts of others.

“We all deserve to live in clean safe communities and by working together I truly believe we can make that happen.’’
