Derry bomb attack: Eastwood says bombers working against will of people

Police and forensic teams at the scene this morning of bomb attack on Saturday night at courthouse in Derry

SDLP leader Colum Eastwood has said the people of Derry are resolutely opposed to the actions of those who detonated a bomb outside the courthouse in Bishop Street on a busy Saturday evening.

No one was injured when a device exploded inside a van which had been hijacked earlier in Quarry Street from a delivery driver.

The Foyle MLA said he had a clear message for those responsible: ‘Stop it now”.

“The people who planted this bomb represent no-one,” said Mr Eastwood.

“Their actions are wrong and pointless.

“They profess to be fighting for Ireland against the British state.

“What they fail to understand is that they stand in opposition to the Irish people. That is a battle that they can never win,” said the Foyle MLA.
