NNICU staff Muriel Buchanan; Louise McMacken; Olivia Anderson and Maria Verzona accepted the generous donation from Michelle and Bob McLaughlin

THE Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital says it is extremely grateful to receive a huge donation of £10,303 from Michelle and Bob McLaughlin.

The generous donation was raised through several fundraising events including a sponsored walk, Rock Night held in the Delacroix Bar and all proceeds of a ‘Tattoo Day’ held by Michael Kelly of Tattoo Lounge.

Nuala Colton, Acting Head of Paediatric and Neonatal services for the Western Trust said: “On behalf of the staff in the Neonatal unit we are extremely grateful for the support that Michelle and Bob have given us over the past three years.

“The McLaughlin family have fundraised tirelessly during this time so that we can purchase equipment which will benefit the babies and their families who are cared for in the Unit.

“We are currently looking at a number of items such as height adjustable cots and a height adjustable bath which will benefit both staff and parents.

“And to replace the bed and mattress in the parents’ bedroom which will provide a more homely and welcoming setting for parents who stay overnight with their baby.

“The family have also purchased equipment for the staff tea room which also makes it a much more pleasant environment.

“Michelle and Bob have been fundraising for the past 3 years for NNICU in appreciation of the care given to their twin daughters Saorlaith and Saoirse after they were born.

“The girls are now 3 years old and the McLaughlin family have raised a total of £26,129 for the Unit.”
