Budding snappers asked to capture park life moments

THE Mayor of Derry and Strabane is calling on all budding photographers to submit their most creative snaps of local park areas in Council’s ‘Park Life’ Photography competition.

Two prizes are up for grabs courtesy of local photo printing company PhotoChute, with £250 in photography equipment going to the winner of the adult Photographer of the Year category and £250 in photography equipment for the junior Photographer of the Year winner.

The best entrants will have their work displayed at a special public exhibition capturing all the very best scenes from parks across the City and District.

Launching the competition, the Mayor, Councillor John Boyle, said he was looking forward to seeing how people present scenes from their favourite green spaces.

“We are so lucky to have some absolutely stunning areas of natural beauty and a wide range of park facilities in towns and villages across Derry and Strabane.

“This is a great opportunity for aspiring photographers to share their favourite views of our parks, our wildlife and the great community spaces that we share.

“The competition is open to everyone as our parks are used by all generations, and to amateurs and professionals alike.

“I want to encourage everyone to submit their favourite scenes, so we can create an exhibition capturing all aspects of park life here.”

The contest, which will run until 31st December on the Council’s website, encourages people of all photographic abilities to submit their best image(s) with a maximum of two entries per person allowed.

Parks Development Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council, Colin Kennedy, said: “We are really keen to get some alternative views of our parks and green spaces, and to see them through the eyes of those who use and enjoy them regularly.

“Parks are social places, they’re a meeting point for friends, a haven for wildlife and a place we go to reflect or exercise. We hope this competition will encourage local people to tell their story of Park Life through the lens.”

Each entrant can submit a maximum of two images to www.derrystrabane.com/parklife by Monday 31st December 2018.
