A MAN is in custody being questioned after a stolen car crashed through safety barriers in Derry last night.

Police officers detained a man minutes after the PSNI received a report from the public that the vehicle had ploughed through the barriers at Crescent Link just after 10.30 pm on Thursday night.

An officer posted on PSNI Foyle’s Facebook page:

“2238 hrs – Member of the public sees a car crash through a safety fence on Crescent Link

“2241 hrs – Incident reported and processed through our call management centre.

“2243 hrs – Members of our District Support Team are on scene and secure the vehicle.

“2249 hrs – Male stopped by TSG, believed to be involved.

“2251 hrs – Local Policing team having carried out several enquiries in the 10 mins since the time of report were able to arrest a male on suspicion of Aggravated taking and driving away, driving with no insurance and driving whilst unfit (looks like that’s just for starters).

“He will be spending the in a cell thanks to great information from local residents and teamwork of #LPT5 #TSG and #DST thankfully no one was near, especially out walking, dread to think what could have happened.

“We already have dashcam but if anyone else has any or has seen this please contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1316 6/12/18.”
