Youth workers invited to attend Youth 19 information sessions

DERRY City and Strabane District Council are hosting a series of information sessions to allow adults working and volunteering with young people to learn more about the exciting opportunities to get involved in next year’s Youth 19 programme.

Since the record breaking consultation with over 10,000 young people as part of the EYC19 campaign, the feedback has been used to shape an exciting year long programme of activities for young people entitled Youth 19.

The programme will have festivals and events, opportunities for young people to get creative, learn new skills, get active, be the voice and make important decisions about how funding is allocated.

Children and Young Peoples Coordinator at Derry City and Strabane District Council, Claire Lynch, encouraged anyone who works with young people to get involved in the sessions that will be held across the City and District from Monday December 3rd to Thursday December 6th.

“We are keen to raise awareness about Youth 19 and share the programme of activities which has been shaped through the first round of consultation carried out during the EYC campaign.

“We know that there is already a wide range of exciting opportunities within our communities and we hope that Youth 19 will add value where there are gaps while also raising the profile of our existing youth services and the positive contributions that our young people are making to our communities every day.

“We know that our partners are vital to the success of Youth 19 and the sessions will give us an opportunity to update adults working and volunteering with young people and get their views on how to add value to the existing programme by submitting their own events and activities that could feature in the Youth 19 programme.

“I would encourage families and young people aged 12-24 who are not aware of what is going on in their communities to visit us on our new website www.youth19.com or if you would prefer to make contact with a member of the team drop us an email on [email protected].

“Check out the free opportunities that are available, register for our newsletter or give us a suggestion about what they would like to see during Youth 19 if we haven’t got it covered.”
