SINN Féin MLA Karen Mullan has commended the Fairness in Fertility campaign who presented senior health officials with 10,000 petition signatures calling for equal access to 3 cycles.

Speaking after hosting the group at Stormont, the Foyle MLA said: “Many people face a very difficult and often hidden journey to access fertility services.

“Today is another step forward on that journey through the presenting of 10,000 petition signatures to the Permanent Secretary in the Department of Health.

“We are out of sync with health services in places such as Scotland with people locally having to go private if they need more than one cycle at a cost of thousands of pounds per cycle.

“Sinn Féin support the case for equal access to 3 cycles in line with NICE guidelines and a review of emotional support as recently outlined in our policy document ‘A Vision for Women’s Healthcare’.

“I want to commend the Fairness in Fertility campaign, for raising these very important issues and for facilitating the difficult conversations to highlight the plight of many people who are struggling to access fertility services,” she added.
