80s themed day this Friday at The Nerve Centre

THE Nerve Centre’s Youth Takeover initiative will host an all-day music and movie event in aid of local charities Foyle Search and Rescue and HURT this Friday, November 2.

‘Retrograde: Journey to the 80s’ promises a night jam packed with big hair, big tunes and the big screen and features a family friendly afternoon event and an over 18s film screening and disco in the evening.

The project is funded by Derry City and Strabane District Council to give young people experience of event management and promotion.

The classic ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ will be screened in the Nerve Centre Cinema in the afternoon from 3 pm until 5.30 pm, admission is £3 with complimentary popcorn and sweets.

Later in the day, 80s cult classics ‘The Lost Boys’ and ‘The Fly’ will be screened back to back alongside an exciting line-up of local DJs where admission is £6 and complimentary pizza is included.

The Headline act at the on-site bar will be the fantastic Q Queen and Disco who will be wrapping it up with their signature sound and samples.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor John Boyle, said the initiative was an ideal way to give young people hands on exposure to the logistics of event management.

“I am delighted that Council are supporting the Youth Takeover initiative who are hosting this event in aid of Foyle Search and Rescue, my chosen charity for the year, and HURT who both do crucial work on the ground in the community,” he said.

“The day has something for everyone with families catered for in the afternoon and older people able to take a trip into the 80s later that night with the film screenings and disco.

“I am particularly pleased that our young people are running this day and they will gain valuable exposure and experience to the various elements of event management.”

Fancy dress for the event is optional and limited tickets are still available, book now through the Nerve Centre website at https://nervecentre.ticketsolve.com/shows/873595323.
