The PSNI say that officers from its Foyleside and The Moor Neighbourhood Policing Team responded to a report of a hate crime incident on Monday evening in the Fountain Estate.
The man was arrested and taken to Strand Road police station for overnight questioning.
A spokesperson said: “On arrival they spoke with a 30 yr old male who unfortunately is going to spent the night with us.
“This male was arrested for a number of offences, and will be placed before the court this morning.
“Police don’t tolerate people that commit hate crimes.
“It is not acceptable in our community for people to carry out such attacks.
“Treat people the way you will like to be treated yourself.”
