Tragic Daniel Bradley who was killed on Thursday night on Glenshane Road

THE HEARTBROKEN parents of eight-year-old boy Daniel Bradley who was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Co Derry have paid tribute to their son they affectionately called ‘Dan The Man’.

Daniel died following the incident on the Glenshane Road near Maghera on Thursday evening.

In a statement released through the PSNI, Mr Bradley and his wife Janice said: “Daniel taught us to step into his world.

“A world filled with challenges and differing perspectives. He taught us to embrace autism and we quickly learned from him that different is not less. We love you. Dan the Man – Forever in our hearts.”

Well-known singer-songwriter and mental health campaigner James Bradley also posted a video to social media of little Daniel singing along with him to the Coldplay song ‘Fix You’.

Mr Bradley wrote: “Fly High Dan The Man, Till we meet again.”

Daniel, who was autistic, was a pupil at Kilronan School.

Writing on their Facebook page the school said that they learned of Daniel’s death with “great shock and sadness”.

“Daniel was a much-loved member of our school community. He was lively, full of fun and popular with all who knew him,” it said.

“We extend our deepest sympathy to his parents, sisters, grandparents and wider family circle at this very sad time and we ask that you would keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”

SDLP MLA Patsy McGlone expressed his deepest sympathies to the family of Daniel.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this young boy as they come to terms with this terrible loss,” the Mid Ulster MLA said.

“Most of us cannot begin to imagine what the family are feeling upon receiving this devastating news.

“I am confident the local community will rally to support them at this deeply sad time.”

Police are investigating the crash and have appealed for witnesses or anyone who has dashcam footage to contact police on the 101 number.
