POLICE are currently at the scene of a security alert tonight in Derry.
A road in the city centre has been closed as a result.
More than 100 people are reported to be trapped in the popular Stand Bingo hall.
The Strand Road is closed from the bottom of Lawrence Hill to the bottom of Clarendon Street.
A number of businesses in the area have been forced to close for the evening.
SDLP Foyle MLA has tweeted: “Security alert in the vicinity of Strand Road police station – please avoid the area.”
Police have deployed its air support helicopter to provide cover for officers on the ground carrying out a search of the area.
