The Lone Moor Road outfit went in front with 10 minutes to spare through 19-year-old Adrian Delap.
Danny Seaborne upended former Foylesider Simon Madden inside the 18-yard-box deep into injury-time, but Derry captain, Doherty, was the hero of the night as he saved Kenny Shiels’ side to advance to the next round.
