Police in Derry launch ‘Silent Guardian’ campaign to help catch drug dealers

POLICE have launched the ‘Operation Silent Guardian campaign in Derry in a bid to rid more drug dealers off the city’s streets.

Officers want members of the public who know about a dealer to ring the PSNI’s 101 number or pass the information anonymously to Crimestoppers.

PSNI Foyle say: “With the support of Crimestoppers and the Policing and Community Safety Partnership we are asking you the public to get behind our Silent Guardian campaign.

“It’s about letting you know what information we need to tackle drug dealing on your street and the different ways you can get that information to us.

“Perhaps your information is the final part we need to search a suspected dealer’s home? Maybe you are the first to let us know about a new dealer in town and we need to start building up a profile?

“It could be that the information you give us may not let us act now but could help us out further down the line.

“We recognise it’s frustrating when you know criminality is taking place in your area and at times you may feel enough isn’t being done.

“But we are working away, often behind the scenes, and very much relying on the intelligence provided by members of the community to take drugs and dealers off the streets.

“Your help is vital – contact us directly on 101 or pass on your information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“We don’t mind how you tell us, we just need to know.”
