THE pedestrian tragically killed after being struck by a car in Co Derry in the early hours of this morning has been named as 58-year-old Eamon McCafferty.

The incident happened at around 2 am on Saturday, August 18, on the Foreglen Road near Claudy.

The road was closed in both directions while police examined the scene and motorists were diverted away from the area.

The road has now been reopened.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the crash or was travelling on the road at the time to contact them.

Insp Peter Duncan said: “We are especially keen to hear from anyone who may have captured dash-cam footage of the man walking along the road or of the blue Hyundai involved in the collision.”

Police said Mr McCafferty was from the Derry area.
