Derry councillors in bid to cut back on plastic waste material

Derry/Strabane councillors are calling on manufacturers to cut down on the use of mixed plastic containers.

They are also working towards an official Zero Waste Policy.

The Walled City Marathon has revealed that following this year’s event, they disposed of/recyled 25,000 plastic bottles.

It added: “We’re looking to assist council in this department and calling for all the runners out there to come forward with ideas/proposals on how to cut down on and work towards zero waste in the marathon and half marathon.”

WHC wants anyone with ideas on how to cut back on the plastic waste to leave a comment on its Facebook page.

“We have always been of the opinion that cups do not favor the runner so we are keen to hear feedback,” added WHC.
