SINN Féin Health spokesperson Patricia Logue has welcomed a meeting that has taken place between her party  and representatives of a support group for men and women in the north who have been injured as a result of the use of mesh to repair hernias.

The Derry councillor said: “Both women and men are suffering serious adverse health effects as a result of mesh having been placed in their bodies during medical procedures.

“The Department must take immediate action to ensure those presenting with mesh related adverse side effects are promptly recognised, assessed and given access to appropriate treatment.

“Sinn Féin will continue to engage with groups representing those suffering from injuries, as well as the Department of Health to insist on the urgent need for those, both men and women, who have been injured by mesh to have access to appropriate treatment,” she added.
