SDLP Ballyarnett Councillor Brian Tierney has expressed his frustration following a security alert in the Galliagh area on Sunday evening.
Families in Fergleen Park were evacuated from their homes into the early hours of the morning and has condemned those behind the incident.
ATO carried out a controlled explosion on the suspect device but later declared it a hoax.
Evacuated residents were allowed back into their homes around 3.30 am.

Cllr Tierney said: “The security alert last night in Galliagh was immensely frustrating and I condemn those behind it.

“Residents were evacuated from their homes and were not able to return until after 3 am.

“Following a controlled explosion, the object was declared to be a hoax.

“Those responsible have disrupted residents, families and the local community, leaving people and children out of their homes and beds on a Sunday night before work and school.

“I attended the scene last night and residents spoke of their anger and upset at the situation and the disruption and chaos that it brought.

“I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with the police or with Crimestoppers as soon as possible.”
