POLICE in Derry have taken another dangerous drink driver off the streets.

The motorist was a learner driver, who had taken someone’s car without permission and and also had no insurance when he was detected on Saturday night in the city.

He was one of two motorists caught caught behind the wheel committing driving offences.

PSNI Foyle say on their Facebook page:

“Foyleside and the Moor Neighbourhood policing team, continued our patrols on Saturday night.

“A male driver was observed driving while using a hand held mobile phone on William Street, Derry.

“Enquiries made showed that the driver was disqualified and therefore also driving without insurance !

“A little later, a man was observed driving erratically in the City Centre.

“When stopped by Police, he was found to only hold a provisional driving licence. He did not have any L plates on display and did not have a competent driver with him.

“Unfortunately for him he had also “borrowed” the car, without telling the owner.

“The driver also admitted to having drunk alcohol and his evidential reading showed he was 3 times over the drink/drive limit.

“He remained in our custody for quite some time!

“Please never consider driving after drinking alcohol!

“You will lose your licence!, your livelihood and potentially your life.

“Please walk or take a bus or taxi.”
