Man hunted after police seize Toyota car in Derry

THE owner of this Toyota Avensis car is to face police questioning after he made off from cops yesterday in a break for the border.

Police wanted to have a quiet word with him but he bolted towards Donegal and left his car behind.

And he was in such a hurry to evade cops that he left his beers and fishing tackle behind in the car

An officer wrote on PSNI Foyle’s Facebook page: “Yesterday evening Ballyarnett Npt  were conducting routine patrols  of our area when we observed two vehicles on the waste ground at the rear of Whitehouse Retail Park.

“This was strange for the time of day, type of vehicles  present and rough terrain, so we decide to approach for a chat

“At this, one makes off like mad towards Upper Galliagh Road and the other travels towards me.

“Now I am in a large liveried Shogun  and I am driving off road towards this vehicle whilst closing the gap in order to stop and speak with the driver .

“Most people would stop and explain what they are doing but not this fella, he decides to drive into the rear offside of my vehicle .

“He then makes off like mad through the highly populated retail park. Following this he makes for the border.

“Unfortunately for this man we know who he is and will be speaking with him very soon!!!

“In the meantime we located his vehicle in Glenabbey Drive and seized it.

“He must have left it behind in a hurry  as he forgot his box of beer , fishing rod  and outdoors coat. It looks like his quiet fishing trip turned into wacky races.

“Here’s a tip for those who want to break the law.

“Give Ballyarnett District Electoral Area a wide berth. We are never far away .”
