Eastwood slams Sinn Féin as ‘stuck in fantasy and over Brexit’

SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood MLA has slammed Sinn Féin Leader Mary Lou McDonald after she claimed that Brexit cannot be stopped in Westminster.
The Foyle MLA said that Sinn Féin lacked any strategy on how it can stop a hard border or hard Brexit. Mr Eastwood said people in West Tyrone need to know that a vote for Sinn Fein only strengths the hand of the DUP.

The SDLP leader said: “It beggars belief that the Sinn Féin Leader’s pitch to the public to elect an MP in West Tyrone is to say that Westminster doesn’t matter – that in Westminster Brexit can’t be stopped. Why then are Sinn Féin running in this election at all?

“Maybe Mary Lou hasn’t got her numbers right – but the very tight votes that we have seen in Westminster show that every single vote will count to stop a Brexit that will devastate this island.

“People in West Tyrone are not fooled by the Sinn Féin sound bites and rhetoric. In this election people know – a vote for Sinn Féin is a vote to strengthen the hand of the DUP.

“People in West Tyrone have a chance to give us a voice, a chance to join with the SNP and with others who want to stop a border on this island by voting against the British Government and the DUP.

“A vote for Sinn Féin only lets the British Government and the DUP off the hook.

“Don’t accept that we should just lay down to British Direct Rule. Don’t accept that politicians should line their pockets but not go to work. Don’t accept that Brexit or borders are inevitable.

“On May 3rd vote for an MP who will actually go to work. Vote for an MP who will stand up for all of us here and who will give the North of Ireland a voice.

“While a Sinn Féin MP will want hide out in corridors and shy away from taking the British Government on, vote for an MP would will actually assert your rights.

“Vote for a reality where your voice matters not a fantasy that lacks strategy. Slogans and sound bites won’t stop the DUP and the British Government but joining forces with pro-remainers across these islands will.

“Vote Daniel McCrossan and send your MP back to work,” added Mr Eastwood.
