Mullan calls for audio equipment to be provided for PIP assessments

SINN Fein’s Karen Mullan has called for audio equipment to be provided during Personal Independent Payment (PIP) assessments.

She was speaking after Britain’s Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) agreed to provide audio recording for PIP assessments

The Foyle MLA said: “The assessment process for PIP is fundamentally flawed.

“One of the many reasons for this is that medical assessments for PIP aren’t recorded as standard.

“This lack of transparency has led to mistrust and disputes over what was said at interviews.

“DWP has now agreed to record interviews as standard.

“Having raised this issue previously with the Department for Communities we  have now written to the Permanent Secretary asking him to confirm if audio recording will now be provided for those who choose it,” she added.
