A number of people have been arrested in Derry today as part of a police operation against dissident republicans.

The PSNI mounted the search and arrest operation this morning in the city which locals believe are linked to petrol bomb attacks on police during a dissident republican parade on Easter Monday in the Creggan.

It is understood the raids are being centred  around Junior McDaid House in Chamberlain Street.

Locals report that the street has been blocked off by police who are not letting anyone in while the searches are being carried out.

Junior McDaid House say on its Facebook page: “Junior McDaid house is currently getting raided by RUC and the page has been shut down also.’

The premises is home to the Irish Repubblican Prisoners Welfare Association and Saoradh, the political wing of the ‘New IRA’.

Saoradh have now said in a statement: “Junior McDaid House in Derry is being raided by the Crown Forces.

“Several activists have been lifted and in the coordinated attack Facebook has removed the Junior McDaid Page.”
