POLICE say five men have been arrested and a number of items seized by the PSNI ivestigating an illegal parade and violent disorder in Derry on Easter Monday.

The males aged 29,31,42,45 and 50 were detained following a search at the headquarters of dissident republicans in the city at the Junior McDaid premises in Chamberlain Street in the city earlier today ( Wednesday 4thApril ).

Chief Inspector Paul McCracken said: “Immediately after the parade and the attack on local police officers on Monday, we had said that robust action would be taken against those who orchestrated the violence and those who participated.

“These searches and arrests are the first phase of that action and more will follow in coming days.

“Those who seek to attack police and bring violence onto the streets can expect to be held accountable for their actions.”

Junior McDaid House said on its Facebook page: “Junior McDaid house is currently getting raided by RUC and the page has been shut down also.’

The premises is home to the Irish Repubblican Prisoners Welfare Association and Saoradh, the political wing of the ‘New IRA’.

Saoradh have since said in a statement: “Junior McDaid House in Derry is being raided by the Crown Forces.

“Several activists have been lifted and in the coordinated attack Facebook has removed the Junior McDaid Page.”
