This Thursday why not come along to the Tower Museum to hear more about the work of one of N. Ireland’s most acclaimed female artists, Carol Graham.

Carol will be talking about her work and influences on March 29th in the latest workshop in the Your City Your Artseries.

The series aims to bring people closer to art via the artists themselves, and make it more accessible as a form of communication open to all.

Your City, Your Art is delivered by Derry City and Strabane District Council and National Museums NI as part of the Creative Community Connections project, funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund.

Curator at the Tower Museum Roisin Doherty, said she was delighted to welcome Carol Graham to the museum.

“The Your City, Your Art series has proven to be extremely popular amongst both seasoned art fans and audiences new to art.

“We’ve had some fantastic local artists here to share their work and give some insight into what inspires them.

“I am delighted to see Carol Graham flying the flag for local female artists, along with Ursula Burke who kicked off the series. Carol’s work is varied and often metaphorical and she channels her own personal experiences into her pieces which can be emotive and powerful.

“I would really encourage anyone with an interest in art to come along and hear more about her story.”

Working from her own studio in Lisburn, Carol Graham was born in Belfast, where she attended the Belfast College of Art. After college her work soon garnered the attention of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Ulster Museum in Belfast and commissions swiftly followed.

Carol works across a range of genres touching on a variety of subject matters, from landscapes and seascapes, to still life and more abstract images.

While diverse in subject matter – from the most vibrant to the darkest works – there is a consistent quality of light and Carol especially enjoys capturing the essence of dawn and dusk in her pieces.

Her work has a widespread following and is held in private collections, public institutions, businesses and galleries across the UK, Ireland, USA, South Africa and Australia.

The Your City, Your Art event will take place in the Tower Museum on Thursday March 29th at 10.30am.

Places are free and no previous art experience is required to enjoy these talks.
