Picture special: 25,000 people celeberate St Patrick’s Day in Derry and Strabane

UP to 25,000 people took to the streets of Derry and Strabane yesterday to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

They braved the cold and windy elements with beaming smiles to take part and spectate at the colourful carnival parades.

Derry City and Strabane District Council tweeted: “Huge congratulations to everyone involved in #StPatrickDay celebrations when 20,000 people braved the cold in #Derry & 5,000 in #Strabane to be part of the celebrations.”

Mayor Maoliosa McHugh headed led the parade in Strabane as locals thronged the streets for the colouful pageant for St Patrick’s Day.

Said the Mayor: “Had an amazing day at the #StPatricksDay Parade in #Strabane – huge thanks to everyone involved for braving the cold.”
