THE son of an elderly man has revealed details of how youths attacked his dad’s car this evening in Derry after they used snow to block his path home

Son Cairan Harte warned on Facebook:

“Everyone in Hazlebank be careful ❗❗

“My dad was driving toward ballymagorarty tonight and there was a snow blockage in the road.

“My dads car got stuck.

“Out of nowhere a group of people ran over and started to punch n kick the car.

“They then opened the drivers door and throw snowball at my dad.

“The 2 wing mirrors have been kicked-off the car, dents all over the side and my daddy is badly shaken up.

“Please share, go a different route and keep your doors locked so this doesnt happen to anyone else.”

Police at Strand Road are appealing for information in relation to the incident.

During the incident which happened around 6 pm on the Ringfort Road, a dark coloured Vauxhall Astra was surrounded by a group of youths who began to attack the vehicle.

A PSNI Foyle spokesperson said: “This has resulted in damage being caused to the vehicle and the elderly male driver being left extremely shaken.

“Police are aware that several members of the public stopped to help the driver and we are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information they may have.

“Please call 101 and quote CCS 1115 of 12/02/2018.”
