MULLAN ‘HOPEFUL’ THAT SCHOOL SURPLUSES CAN BE ACCESSED

SINN Féin Education spokesperson Karen Mullan said she is hopeful that schools will be able to access surplus revenues following her discussions with the Education Authority.

The Foyle MLA commented: “Following reports from schools that they have been unable to access their surpluses, I raised the matter in a meeting with the EA and I am hopeful of a positive solution.

“Many schools are under pressure as a result of the budget cuts imposed by the Tories and supported by the DUP.

“So in those schools where budget surpluses do exist, these should be freed up for use in front-line education and not held back.

“Given the circumstances that many schools find themselves in, I believe the EA were sympathetic to my argument and I hope this matter will now be resolved quickly.”
