THE Western Trust say it is continuing to support its healthcare staff by providing training in dementia care.

A Trust spokesperson said: “Staff from Trauma and Orthopaedics Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital, who have successfully completed their course in best practice in dementia care from the University of Stirling were recently presented with their award certificates.

“The course was facilitated by Deirdre Harkin, PHD researcher in the Western Trust.”

Mary Lafferty, Assistant Nursing Services Manager in Trauma and Orthopaedic said: “This course is made available to the staff within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Unit on an ongoing basis.

“I am delighted that our staff continue to undertake this training.

“It enhances the experience of patients with dementia and their families who are cared for in the Unit.”
