HALF TIME: DESPAIR IN DUBLIN AS DANES LEAD 2-1 TO CANCEL OUT SHANE DUFFY’S EARLY GOAL

Derry’s Shane Duffy gave Republic early lead in Dublin but Danes have now gone into at half time leading 2-1

THE Republic of Ireland have gone in at half time trailing 2-1 to Denmark in Dublin this evening (kick of 7.45 pm).

Derry’s Shane Duffy gave the men in green an early boost when he netted on seven minutes.

But a Cyrus Chrisite own goal on 29 minutes brought the Danes back into the game.

And just minutes later danger man Christian Eriksen dealt the Republic with a further blow when he netted to sends chills of despair around the packed ground.

Shane Ward lost the ball and Denmark pounced quickly, with Jorgensen heading a pass to the unmarked Eriksen on the edge of the area and he drives the ball into the net via the underside of the bar.

Randolph had no chance and earlier delight in the Aviva Stadium turned to stunned silence.

Six minutes before half time Derry’s James McClean had a penalty appeal.

Robbie Brady drove a cross into the area for McClean and as he attempted to get the ball at the second attempt he tumbles under a challenge by Andreas Christensen.

But referee doesn’t give a penalty..

Ireland now need to score twice in the second half without conceding if they are to have a chance to make it to Russia next summer for the start of the 2018 World Cup.
