SINN Féin Health spokesperson Councillor Patricia Logue has  welcomed Derry City and Strabane District Councils new mental health Charter.

Councillor Patricia Logue said: “Given the evidence based high percentage of absenteeism among civil service workers due to poor mental health we welcome the Councils commitment to introduce positive measures to help address issues for not only their staff but for the benefit of its citizens.

“Once embedded in the local council this will enhance working relationships and create a more open and user friendly space.

“Together with councils Bewell Programme this shows that we are a progressive and caring council.

“It’s vital that in every area of  our workplaces we are always looking at new ways  that are more supportive of people who find themselves having to deal with mental illness.

“I would ask all staff to embrace this charter and to participate in initiatives that are connected with it,” she added..
