TRADITIONAL Irish Tweeds with a contemporary modern twist by Elsie Tweed, will be among the wide range of diverse and unique products that will be on display at this year’s Guildhall Craft Fair that takes place this Friday 10 to Sunday 12 November.
Organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council, the Guildhall Craft Fair brings together over 40 high-end craft producers and exhibitors from across the island of Ireland to showcase the best of local and regional craft produce and sell a wide range of contemporary and traditional gifts and products.
The Craft Fair marks the start of the City and District’s hugely exciting Christmas campaign and is one of the most popular events in the events calendar renowned for its unique setting and array of high-end products.
Elsie Tweeds, designed and created by local crafter Leona Cregan, will be part of this year’s event showcasing her unique range of Irish tweeds using 100% natural Irish fibres in all of her quality products that include luxurious cushions, blankets and ladies wraps and scarves.
Leona is delighted to be exhibiting her work at the Guildhall Craft Fair and believes it’s a great way to showcase her products to the local market and to give her an insight into how she can develop a larger product range so that she can expand her company as a luxury brand into shops nationally and internationally.
She said: “All Elsie Tweed products are handcrafted and original and I colour and design them individually. I also take commissions for hand-woven and embroidered individual pieces of Elsie Tweet Textile Art.”
Leona is a third generation designer in her family and after graduating from college she started up Elsie Tweeds and has specialised in weaving ever since.
This is her first time participating in the Guildhall Craft Fair and delighted to be showcasing her products in her home time especially in the run up to Christmas.
The Guildhall Craft Fair runs from 10-12 November and opening times are Friday (12 noon to 7pm), Saturday (10am – 6pm) and Sunday (11am – 6pm).
Admission fee is £1 per adult and free for children under the age of 14.
A series of workshops, music and events are also programmed over the weekend as part of the Christmas festive experience.
New to the offering this year is the addition of a small number of food stalls on the ground floor that will enhance the overall festive experience.

“The Guildhall Craft Fair is an amazing event – it officially marks the start of Christmas and is the perfect opportunity to pick up some unique gifts and crafts.
“We have everything from textiles, ceramics and jewellery to glassware and homemade fudge and cakes, to candles, knitwear and paintings.”
