POLICE say the security alert in Dungiven has ended.

Two pipe bomb type devices have been recovered and will be sent for examination.

The alert was sparked on Thursday around 1.20 pm when police received a report that a device was abandoned in the Derrychrier Road area.

A major security alert was launched and ATO was tasked to the scene.

Superintendent Jeremy Lindsay said: “We are thankful for the cooperation and patience of the people of Dungiven as we worked to bring this incident to a conclusion and ensure the area was safe.

“As our investigation progresses I would ask anyone with information or who may have noticed any suspicious or unusual activity in the Derrychrier or Feeny Road areas of the town in recent days to please get in touch.

“The number to call is 101.”
