JAMES MCCLEAN THE HERO AS STUNNING GOAL SINKS WALES AND SENDS IRELAND INTO PLAY OFFS

A GIFTED young man from the Creggan made a name for himself tonight with a wonder strike for his country.

James McClean’s classy finish in Cardiff broke Welsh hearts and left Irish eyes smilling all over the world with a superb 1-0 win, even thought it was nail-biting in the the five added minutes of time,

His 57 minute right-footed strike ended Wales’s run in the World Cup qualifiers and gave Ireland a chance of reaching Russia next summer through the play offs.

Wayne Hennessey rolled the ball out to Ashley Williams, but Jeff Hendrick took it off him and crossed from the right.

It came  through to McClean on his right foot, and he connected with a dreamy shot, and smashed into the corner!

This was a masterclass by Martin O’Neill.

His team selection looked negative but they defended well and took the one chance they’ve had all night

Ireland had less than 30 per cent of possession in the second half, and one shot on target.

And James McClean made it count, even though it was not on his best foot.

What a great night for a great lad. Well done James! You little beauty!!!
