BUDDING artists and crafters across the Derry City and Strabane District Council area who are looking to up-skill their hobbies or are looking for new ideas for seasonal gifts, are being encouraged to attend one of the arts workshops at the Alley Arts and Conference Centre in Strabane.

October sees the ceramic workshops by Leona Devine, who is renowned for her delicate drawing of nature on ceramics to creating tiles and plaques although Leona is not afraid of using colour either as seen on her 3 dimensional pieces. Her workshops are scheduled to take place between October 14 and 21.

In mid-November the 18th in Strabane, we are running a one day workshop with photographic company Belfast Exposed for all you camera buffs and budding photographers with the chance to hone your skills under the expertise guidance of the Mervyn Smyth.

If you are thinking of upgrading their camera equipment/lens then this is an opportunity try out their cameras or to discuss the practicalities before you make those Christmas purchases.

The centre will host a Johnny Crampsie themed music celebration of traditional music with three local musicians, Ann Marie Devin, Laurens Hegarty and Christy Murray on the afternoon of October 21.

It’s a great opportunity for young people to test themselves with the professionals in the breakout spaces and then coming together to perform with the medley of instruments, the melodies they have learnt.

At the end of November and early December, the Alley will host an exciting range of craft workshops presented by Crafters from the Studio 1, who sell their artisan wares via the presentation stands at the Alley Box office.

Leading these workshops is glass artist Natasha Duddy offering an intergenerational workshop for children and adults to create pieces and Christmas crafts by Leona Flanagan children Button art Décor, while Rachel Leary is offering adult ceramic craft class in tea light holders and tree decoration.

Finishing up these special Christmas Craft events on December 09 is Make Memories, who are offering a traditional handmade quilted decorations workshop.

Members of the public are encouraged to get involved and also to let the organisers know what type of arts /craft workshop they would like to see at the facility and to email [email protected]
