SINN Féin’s Elisha McCallion has welcomed the announcement that Derry City and Strabane District Council has received a formal letter of offer for €14.85 million from the EU’s INTERREG VA Programme to proceed with the North West greenways project.

The  Foyle MP said: “Its welcome news that this multi million pound investment will see a greenways project on two key routes from our city into Donegal.

“The greenways will link Derry with Buncrana and the village of Muff. And also Strabane to Lifford via Lifford Bridge.

“Greenways have the potential to strengthen activity tourism, as well as being an invaluable health and wellbeing resource for local communities.

“It will protect and enhance the countryside and open spaces around it to a whole new generation.

“I look forward to seeing work begin on these projects as soon as possible,” she added.
