SINN Féin’s Elisha McCallion has welcomed confirmation from the Department of Finance and the Department of Communities that technical issues barring Irish passport holders from accessing Universal Credit have been resolved.

Speaking following notification from Department officials, the Foyle MP said:

“Sinn Féin have been engaging with the Department of Finance on an ongoing basis to resolve this issue, so i welcome this announcement.

“The fact that Irish passport holders, and those with driving licences issued in the north, faced additional obstacles was unacceptable.

“Following my party being in direct contact with the Department, I am thankful that this issue has been resolved.”
