Fashion designer Jenny Packham’s bridal gowns to be displayed at Fashion Fest 2017

DERRY City and Strabane District Council is delighted to announce that a selection of bridal gowns from British fashion designer Jenny Packham’s 2017/18 will be on display at this year’s Fashion Fest 2017.

Announcing details of Fashion Fest 2017, the biggest Fashion event in the North West events calendar, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Maolíosa McHugh confirmed that this year’s event is scheduled to take place on Saturday 14 October.

Now in its fourth year, the Fashion Fest, organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council, has become synonymous with contemporary style and making the North West the premier fashion destination of Northern Ireland.

The addition of bridal wear from Jenny Packham is a major coup for the Fashion Fest organisers and will be a real draw for fashion lovers and brides-to-be across the North West region.

The British designer is best known for dressing the Duchess of Cambridge and other high profile celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Taylor Swift, Uma Thurman and Kate Hudson to name but a few.

In 2013 she designed a bespoke gown for British Oscar-winning singer songwriter Adele at the 85th Academy Awards.

Fashion Fest showcases the season’s biggest trends and cutting edge designs and is a must for fashion lovers from across the North West region.

This year, the programme will focus on one major evening of style and glamour with the ‘Fashion Fest Show’ to take place in one of the city’s most iconic landmark buildings, the stunning Guildhall, for a night of high class fashion and entertainment.

The Fashion Fest Show promises to be a night not to be missed where you can dress to impress and be part of a stylish celebration that will showcase the best in Irish fashion and design with high profile names yet to be announced and many surprises on the night.

Tickets are priced at £15 (+booking fee) which includes a drink on arrival and an exclusive goody bag for all. Tickets are on sale now and we anticipate tickets to sell fast so make sure to secure yours as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Also included as part of the Fashion Fest programme there will also be engagement opportunities for local businesses, a new ‘Face of Fashion Fest’ and a Designer Business Start-Up Programme, offering new designers the opportunity to be part of the Fashion Fest event and avail of business mentoring support to help them develop their business infrastructure and growth strategies.

Speaking ahead of Fashion Fest, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Maolíosa McHugh said: “Derry City and Strabane District Council believes the Fashion Fest is a great way to celebrate its local and national talents by providing local gifted designers an opportunity to showcase their work to a large audience and get some profile.

“We are particularly delighted to have designers of the calibre of Jenny Packham included in the programme this year.

“The festival is also a great opportunity chance for fashion enthusiasts to view the upcoming trends and meet designers and I am confident this year’s event is going to be another huge success.”

The Festival was first established by the Council to give established and emerging designers, fashion and beauty traders, students and fashion entrepreneurs a platform to promote their products and showcase their services and has gone from strength to strength.

This year, the event is very much focused on product presentation and collection promotion and is expected to be yet another huge success.

Louise Breslin, Business Manager at Derry City and Strabane District Council and involved in the organising of Fashion Fest says the event is getting more popular every year.

She commented: “This event annually attracts a wide variety of established and up and coming talents within the industry to the city.

“With one major event planned this year, this is an opportunity to get the date on your diary and spread the word out to new emerging designers who may be interested in taking part.

“We are hugely excited to have Jenny Packham designs on display at the event. It’s a huge coup for the festival and further evidence of the success of the festival.

“We will also be bringing together some of the biggest names in Irish design alongside local emerging artists to reveal on a grand stage, the latest trends in fashion and high end haute couture.”

The Fashion Fest programme is currently being finalised with many more opportunities and events planned for retailers, designers, buyers and fashionistas that are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
