MAYOR of Derry City and Strabane District Council Councillor Maolíosa McHugh has pledged his support for organ donation.And he has urged the public to register as an Organ Donor as part of Organ Donation week that takes place from 04-10 September.
Organised by the Western Health and Social Services Trust, Organ Donation Week is an opportunity to make people aware of the importance organ donation plays in saving lives.
The Mayor said he was very pleased to support the campaign and to highlight the need for more potential organ donors to come forward.
According to the Western Trust there is a real shortage of organ donations and unfortunately every year around 14 people in Northern Ireland die waiting for an organ transplant.
For those interested in registering as a potential donor you can do so in a number of ways –
