DUFFY SLAMS WEEKEND ARSON ATTACK ON MUGA PLAY FACILITIES IN SHANTALLOW

SINN Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has slammed anti community activity that has taken place at the MUGA play facility in Shantallow.

She said: “Sadly in the greater Shantallow area we have now seen the second attack on a community facility in less than a week.

“There was a vandalism attack on a play park at Racecourse Road and now the MUGA pitches at Shantallow.

“The MUGA pitches which are a very much used community facility came under attack on Friday when a gang of youths set fire to tyres and rolling them onto the pitch.

“This is a disgraceful attack and must be condemned.

“Community facilities in this district have been hard fought for over many years.

“We cannot allow a handful to undermine nor detract from the excellent youth work that goes on in the area.

“If anyone has information relating to who was responsible for this they should contact the relevant authorities.”
