Councillor Tony Hassan

SINN Féin Councillor Tony Hassan has slammed vandals who have damaged a play park in the Shantallow area in memory of a young child from the area who died tragically in 2013.

The children’s play park in Derry was named in memory of a young boy who died suddenly just over four years ago.

Jake Murphy died in July 2013 while playing close to a building site near to his Ardnamoyle home in Shantallow.

Councillor Tony Hassan said: “I find it incredible that anyone would damage this play park at the new housing development at Racecourse Park/Drive, which was under development at the time of Jake’s death.

“It was very poignant that this park was named in his memory.

“I would appeal for these attacks to stop immediately and whoever is behind them to catch themselves on.

“I have been in contact with APEX housing to try and get the park fixed as soon as possible,” he added.
