DERRY DUO SEEK THIRD WALKING BUDDY FOR INCREDIBLE CHARITY WALK TO CORK

DERRY duo Fergal Barr and Keith Adair will be taking on the mammoth task of walking 300 miles from Derry to Crosshaven in Cork in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, and they are seeking a third walking buddy to join them.

A regular attendee of the Crosshaven Irish Redhead Convention which is held annually in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, Fergal decided to launch his own fundraiser for the national cancer charity after the Irish Redhead Convention announced that they are taking a hiatus this summer.

And thus, Redhead300 was born! Fergal will be joined by kidney cancer survivor Keith Adair for the trek to Cork.

The pair hope to raise €5,000, and have already raised €1,000 since announcing the project.

However, Fergal and Keith are looking for someone else to join them!

They are seeking someone who can join for the full two weeks, or two people who will complete a week each.

Said Fergal: “We are currently searching for the final member of our team, someone who will give up two weeks to walk with us or two people who will complete a week each.

“We are also looking for two ‘Guest Walkers’ to join us for each stage of the walk and for those who a full day might seem too much we are also looking for ‘RedVoluntionaries’ who will pick a point on the journey and join us and contribute €5 for each kilometre they walk.”

Keith says that his motivation to complete the walk is because he would like to support others affected by cancer.

“I’m a cancer survivor and I want to give something back to a charity funding important cancer research and supports to help other people affected by cancer.

“Most people have been affected in one way or another by cancer, either you’ve been unfortunate enough to have had cancer or a close friend or family member has suffered at the hands of it.

“I’m in remission now and as I emerge from that journey I’m undertaking another one – all 300 miles of it of course!”

Their incredible journey begins on August 5th and will take them through Ballybofey, Donegal Town, Bundoran, Sligo, Boyle, Roscommon, Athlone, Birr, Roscrea, Thurles, Fermoy and Cork, with the goal of reaching Crosshaven on August 18th.

Fancy joining Fergal and Keith? Drop them a line at [email protected] (don’t be shy, non-red heads are welcome too!)
