MCCARTNEY OPPOSED TO ATTEMPTS TO PRIVATISE FIRE SERVICE

SINN Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has said Sinn Féin will oppose any attempts to privatise the Fire and Rescue Service.

Raymond McCartney said: “I have been contacted by members of the Fire and Rescue Service who are concerned about attempts to privatise the service.

“Recruitment ads have been posted online to recruit staff for the Fire and Rescue Service but when people ring the telephone number included they are told the recruits would be used for contingency arrangements, including strikes.

“This is causing considerable concern among firefighters and trade unionists who see this as an attempt at privatisation.

“I will be in contact with the Fire and Rescue Service to discuss this and raise our concerns about any attempt to privatise this vital service.”
