DETECTIVES have charged one of two men arrested in relation to a string of offences in Derry over the Bank Holiday weekend.

He has been charged with robbery, theft, burglary and handling property stolen in the Republic of Ireland.

The 28-year-old accused is due to appear before Derry Magistrates’ court today, Monday, May 29, for a first remand hearing.

Police are likely to object to him being released on bail over fears of further offending.

A 21-year-old man was also arrested by police investigating a hit-and-run on the Buncrana Road in Derry, a burglary at Old City Court, and an attempt to rob a woman parking her car at Spencer Road.

He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

All of the incidents are said to have happened late on Friday night or in the very early hours of Saturday.

The crime spree started with the theft of a car in Donegal on Friday evening before travelling across the border into Derry.
