ballot-boxTHE Electoral Office is advising voters in Derry that today is the deadline to register in time for the June 8 General Election.

You must be registered by 11.59 pm tonight, Monday, May 22, in order to take part.

If you are already registered from previous elections you do not need to register again.

Anyone who has not already registered to vote at their current address can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

The Westminster poll is first-past-the-post and you put an X next to the name on the ballot paper of the candidate you want to vote for.

The person with the highest first preference votes will be declared the person duly elected to the constituency of Foyle.

The outgoing SDLP MP Mark Durkan has a comfortable 6,000 majority over Sinn Fein.

Sinn Fein is hoping local MLA Elisha McCallion can put a dent in that majority.
