A YOUTH project in Derry said it had to withdraw services tonight after its premises in Derry came under attack by mindless young people.

The attack happened at the premises in the Galliagh afrea.

Youth Project group Off The Streets said this evening on its Facebook page:

“Unfortunatley we have had to take our youth workers off street tonight due to two staff and our premises being attacked.

“We urge these young people involved to have a think of the impact your actions have to the community.

We would also ask parents to have a chat with your children about the dangers of throwing bricks, lighting fires and damaging homes.

“Our staff are out 6 nights per week providing a vital service for all young people and we cannot do this if staff are not safe.”

People have reacted angrily to tonight’s news.

One posted: “So disheartened to hear this, i hope the staff are ok and those responsible are brought to book!!!!”.

Another posted: “What it’s going to be like all summer? Nightmare.”
