MCCALLION CALLS FOR CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR FOYLE HAVEN

A FORMER Mayor has appealed for financial support for Foyle Haven.

Sinn Féin MLA Elisha McCallion said:

“During my term as Mayor I took particular interest in issues around addiction and people in crisis, one of which was theFoyle Haven.

“I established a working group to assess the situation and sought funding to secure its future.

“We were successful in securing funding until June 2017.

“The steering group met again on Monday to discuss the future prospects of the Haven and I want to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of the group which has ensured that the present level of services offered will remain in place until June 2017.

“I also know that within the Steering Group there continues to provide much support for the work of the Haven, I am however concerned that many of the current funders have indicated that it will be difficult to provide the extra funding required to sustain the service.

“The Steering Group is however committed to finding a solution and I would urge all those across Departments and organisations that have responsibility for ensuring the service continues to seek a resolution to the difficulties in which the Haven now finds itself.

“I will continue to meet with the working group and liaise with all possible funders in an attempt to achieve sustainability.
