Dissident republicans behind two shootings in Derry this week

A 59-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a paramilitary-attack style shooting in Derry earlier this week.

The suspected was detained in the Cromore Gardens area of the city.

The arrest comes after a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg in at Ladbroke bookmakers at Central Drive in the Creggan on Monday evening.

Detectives are continuing to investigate and would appeal to anyone with information to contact them at the Terrorist Investigation Unit based at Maydown on the 101 number.

Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.

It was the first of two dissident republican shootings in two days.

On Wednesday, a 48-year-old man was shot in the leg in a laneway at Glenowen Park.
