TWO people  are currently in custody after a man was shot in the leg at a bookies in Derry earlier this week.

Police arrested a second man earlier, aged 19, in connection with a shooting incident in the Central Drive area of Derry on Monday.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, was shot in the leg at a bookies in front of a number of horrified children.

He was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Terrorist Investigation Unit have also conducted a number of searches today as part of the investigation.

A 31-year-old man arrested as part of the same investigation remains in police custody.

A PSNI spokesman said: “Officers have arrested a 19 year old man in Derry in connection with a shooting incident in the Central Drive area of the city on Monday, 27 March.

“Police have also conducted a number of searches in the City today as part of the investigation.

“A 23-year-old man was shot in the leg in the incident and taken to hospital where he is being treated for injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening at this stage.

“Detectives continue to appeal to anyone with information to contact detectives at Serious Crime Branch on 101, quoting reference number 1169 of 27/03/17.

“Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity by telephoning 0800 555 111.”

Local Sinn Fein councillor Kevin Campbell condemned the two attacks and called on dissident republicans to ends the shootings, saying the gun attacks which came within two days of each other were a “worrying development”.
